Opening of the Mountaineering Museum

Days before the start of the season, Malyovitsa gathered mountaineering enthusiasts

  • Representatives of the Bulgarian Tourist Union from across the country gathered at the symbolic home of Bulgarian mountaineering
  • The opening of the Mountaineering Museum is a remarkable event, as noted by the Mayor of Samokov, Vladimir Georgiev

Just days before the official start of the ski season, Malyovitsa paid tribute to the greatest Bulgarian mountaineers with the inauguration of a brand-new museum within the mountain school. Members of the Bulgarian Tourist Union enjoyed the exhibition, presented a book dedicated to mountaineering, and toured the fully renovated facilities.

The event was honored by the Regional Governor, the Mayor of Samokov, members of parliament, civic leaders, and representatives of local authorities.

„Today I had the opportunity to attend an exceptional event — the opening of the Mountaineering Museum in the Malyovitsa Resort Complex. The word ‘tradition’ was used during the ceremony, and indeed, the future must be built upon solid foundations such as these. Malyovitsa is historically tied to the story of Bulgarian mountaineering, and this legacy should guide its development into a year-round destination.
I am glad that this part of Rila has recently gained momentum and is actively developing. I am confident this will contribute to the growth of the entire Iskarovete region as a preferred tourist destination. It has all the conditions to succeed — stunning nature, diverse opportunities for tourism, and a high-quality tourism product.“ Said the mayor of Samokov Vladimir Georgiev.

With heartfelt words, Yanko Avramov from Malyovitsa Resort thanked the Bulgarian Tourist Union, Tourist Association Malyovitsa, Samokov Municipality, and the Mountain Rescue Service – Borovets for their support in opening – or rather reviving – the Mountaineering Museum: „Let us remember what those before us achieved, and leave something behind for those who come after us. Let the people who visit this place connect with the rich Bulgarian mountaineering legacy. For me, mountaineering is about two things: the dream of reaching something — and the perseverance to achieve it. I believe that today’s Bulgarians need more of both — the courage to dream and the will to pursue those dreams. And this museum, the faces looking back at us from the photographs, teach us exactly that.“

As he concluded „In today’s world, we are doing something that rarely happens in Bulgaria — we are opening a museum. A Mountaineering Museum.“

This exceptional venue is now open to all guests of the Malyovitsa complex. The museum was designed in a modern style, as part of the expanded infrastructure of the Alpine School hotel.
