Dimitar Hristov: Malyovitsa Resort — Beautiful, Comfortable, Modern
The Hotels, Facilities, and the Seasons
We offer a balance between winter sports and summer attractions, and Hotel “Alpinist” combines a museum, a spa, and mountain-style comfort, says the head of “Ski Zone & Attractions”.
– Winter resorts in Bulgaria are increasingly attracting visitors year-round. What does Malyovitsa offer, Mr. Hristov?
– This region has long-standing traditions in mountaineering, and in that context, before anything else, the Mountaineering Museum was created—with the support of the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS) and the legendary chronicler of Bulgarian mountaineering, Assoc. Prof. Sandyo Beshev.
Today, Malyovitsa as a resort has a completely new, modern look. At the same time, it preserves the spirit of tradition.
This area has all the conditions for huge hotels, night venues, and shopping complexes. None of that will happen. The vision is entirely different.
Also:
Summer attractions and winter sports will continue to develop in a balanced way and in harmony with nature. The guiding principle here is that less is more.
“Alpinist” and “Malyovitsa” offer everything needed for a true holiday—amid the silence and beauty of the majestic pines at the foot of the peak.
Both hotels feature modern relaxation areas. Very soon, “Alpinist” will also offer an indoor pool for its guests.
One more hotel with tradition is also being restored within the complex. That is all. No new construction of entirely new facilities is planned.
Hotel “Alpinist” and the Mountaineering Museum
– Still, what are your observations—does the winter season attract more tourists?
– The hotels have high occupancy in all seasons. The large adventure park, as well as the hiking trails—covering all difficulty levels, from the easiest to the most demanding—attract many visitors from April to November.
In other words:
In the winter season we have a different type of visitor here—ski enthusiasts. There are also many families with children who are just learning to ski.
The convenience of stepping out of the hotel and being on the ski slope is exceptional—especially for families with younger children.
Malyovitsa is a young resort with huge potential for people who value nature.
The Overall Vision for the Resort
– Hotel “Alpinist” makes a strong impression and is even described as the jewel of the complex. This is the old CPSH building, isn’t it?
– Exactly. Our mountain school building was constructed 60 years ago and has been preserved in its original form to this day.
The complete renovation also includes the interior spaces. On the site of the former director’s offices, the Mountaineering Museum is now located.
Wherever you walk along the corridors, you will see photos from those early years—and memories of the greatest names in mountaineering.
About 50 years ago, the first training courses for mountain rescuers and avalanche operations were held here. That was the period when Bulgaria first began using a helicopter.
It carried the call sign “Charlie Alfa Alfa” and was used to rescue people in hard-to-reach places.
In today’s modern vision, there is room to pay tribute to history.
– Do different types of training still take place here today?
– With the support of the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS) and during the festival they hold at the beginning of summer, some of the traditions are preserved—and new ones are created as well.
Recently, there has also been interest in Hotel “Alpinist” for team-building events, conferences, and management meetings for various companies.
With its smaller capacity, stylish design, and distinctive atmosphere, it is an attractive option for a corporate gathering—in the privacy needed for productive meetings, without unnecessary noise.
Finally:
At the same time, the hotel has a cozy restaurant, conference rooms, and a highly appealing spa center with an indoor pool, which is expected to open in the coming days.
“Alpinist” is probably one of a kind—a hotel with 15 comfortable units, including family rooms and apartments; a very modern spa center that will begin operating any moment; and an elegant combination of a lobby bar with the Mountaineering Museum.
– When will Malyovitsa’s adventure center close?
– It all depends on the weather. Our preliminary plan is for it to operate at least until the end of September.
In addition to the adventure center, you can also hire a mountain guide for some of the hikes. I especially recommend this for groups with children and for less experienced hikers.
I also urge, once again, not only our guests but everyone who chooses to spend a day in nature, not to light fires in the forest—because we all see the consequences.
Let us be responsible—to ourselves and to nature.
