Days Before the Season Opening, Malyovitsa Brought Together Mountaineering Enthusiasts

Representatives of the Bulgarian Tourist Union (BTS) from across Bulgaria gathered at the home of Bulgarian mountaineering.
According to the Mayor of Samokov, Vladimir Georgiev, the opening of the Mountaineering Museum is an exceptional event.

Just days before the opening of the ski season in Malyovitsa, tribute was paid to Bulgaria’s great mountaineers at the brand-new museum in the mountain school. Representatives of the Bulgarian Tourist Union enjoyed the exhibition, presented a book dedicated to mountaineering, and toured the fully renovated facilities.

The event was attended by the regional governor, the Mayor of Samokov, members of parliament, public figures, and representatives of the local authorities.

“Today I had the opportunity to attend an exceptional event—the opening of the Mountaineering Museum at the Malyovitsa resort complex. At the opening, the word ‘tradition’ was used. Without a doubt, the future must be built on solid foundations such as traditions. Yes, Malyovitsa is linked to the history of mountaineering in Bulgaria, and on this basis its development as a year-round resort should be further expanded. I am glad that this part of Rila has gained momentum in recent years and is developing actively. I am confident this will contribute to the development of the entire Iskar Valley region as a preferred tourist destination. Everything needed is here for that to happen—magnificent nature, many opportunities for different types of tourism, and, not least, the chance to offer a high-quality tourism product,” said the Mayor of Samokov, Vladimir Georgiev.

In a powerful message, Yanko Avramov from the Malyovitsa complex thanked the people of the Bulgarian Tourist Union, the Malyovitsa Tourist Society, the Municipality of Samokov, and the Mountain Rescue Service – Borovets for their support for the opening—or rather the revival—of the Mountaineering Museum: “Let us remember what those before us have done, and leave something for those who will come after us. Let those who come here to отдых can touch Bulgaria’s alpine history. For me, mountaineering is mainly two things—the dream of reaching something, and the perseverance to achieve it. I think that we, Bulgarians today, need more of that: to dream, and more perseverance to make our dreams come true. And this museum—the faces looking at us from the photographs—teaches us exactly that.”

As he himself summed up: “Nowadays we are doing something that happens rarely in Bulgaria—we are opening a museum. A Mountaineering Museum.”

At this exceptional place, all guests of the Malyovitsa complex will have the opportunity to enjoy the museum. It has been designed in a modern style as part of the overall space of the alpine school’s hotel facilities.
